Wahoo!!! I just received notification that my mammogram was clear and I am now five years out from my breast cancer. For all of us who have had cancer it is a waiting game for that five year mark and when you hit it there is a tiny weight off your shoulders. I will continue to have that yearly mammogram, no matter how uncomfortable it is, and rejoice when it too is clear.
Unfortunately that is not always the case for all women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer at any stage of development and may not have the financial means to afford the yearly mammogram. That is why I am continuing to participate in the Komen Race for the Cure® to help raise funds for those individuals who cannot afford the screening process, who need assistance with transportation to and from appointments and treatments, and for specific breast health services. I found it very interesting when I viewed The State of Breast Cancer at www.komen.org just what the rate of cancer is throughout the State of Oregon and SW Washington. It is also enlightening to view the 2015 Qualitative Data Report: Measuring Breast Cancer Impact in Local Communities which gives specifics. Maybe too much information for most of us but becomes significant when you are the one diagnosed with breast cancer.
If you are able to give a tax deductible donation to assist with fundraising that would be spectacular and there will be many individuals who might benefit from your generosity.
I thank you in advance for your consideration of this worthy cause when there are so many not for profit organizations in need of funding.
Blessings to you,
Eileen
